CarDekho , the genius behind 'Girnarsoft' and owned by Amit Jain and Anurag Jain (both from Jaipur), is a simple web portal that offers everything you need about automobiles. This portal lists cars for business and offers many services in the simplest language including car prices, features, specifications and other details along with insights into the automobile world, videos and pictures of recently photographed cars. You will also find many other categories like upcoming vehicles and new launches.

CarDekho also has an e-store that sells car accessories like floor mats and scratch removers.

Their services also include automobile finance services like instant car loan or car insurance. This service is offered in partnership with Berkshire Insurance and BankBazaar.com. They have also recently created an automotive forum on their portal where experts and reviewers from CarDekho can answer any car-related queries posted. CarDekho can be described as a virtual dealer for cars, but it is very technological and up-to-date and has all the options.

What is the life story of CarDekho?

Both Amit and Anurag are IIT-Delhi graduates. They each spent about 8 years in Corporate America with TCS & Trilogy. Amit's love for technology and products grew out of this experience. Both quit their jobs later in life to return to their hometowns. Instead of continuing their family's jewelry business, they decided to start their own business. Amit initially wanted to open an online jewelry store, but he soon realized the realities of running a business. The duo decided to do what was best for them, and so Girnarsoft was born

Their bedroom is their first office. From there they started sending emails to potential clients. It is clear that if it was so easy, everyone would have become millionaires. The duo started by sending out emails hoping to secure large clients, and reached out to anyone in need of IT services.

After countless emails and phone calls they finally secured their first client. They accepted the project even though it was INR 50,000 less than their usual price. Another project followed and the chain of references began to grow. They hired their first employee in April 2007 and their company grew to 40 employees within a year. They now have enough capital to finance their project and can bank on it

Although there was a lot of thinking and planning about the creation of CarDekho, Amit's visit to the International AutoExpo convinced them. Although CarDekho was launched and a lot of thought and planning went into the conceptualization of the product, the company made it clear that they wanted to remain a service business. A definite source of income is a must. From then on, there was no turning back. CarDekho's revenue model has been straightforward since its inception. They have only three sources of income so far. AdSense is their most prominent source, followed by sponsored ads. The third and most important source started from manufacturers and dealers. CarDekho is an example of a company that is involved in the entire process from start to finish and ensures that customers are satisfied. It didn't take long for them to get good traffic.

Although the initial years of CarDekho were slow, they eventually made their mark. They have received many prestigious awards in their early years including “Best Automotive Website”, “Best Car Website 2012”, “Most Popular Website 2012” and “Website of the Year India 2011 and 2012″.

Their numbers were a hit, with 3.4 million unique visitors visiting their site in their first four years of existence. CarDekho had 2.5 million unique visitors by the end of 2012, almost double their previous traffic. The portal gained tremendous momentum in no time and reached a record sales of 1.7 lakh cars. The cherry on top was CarDekho's acquisition of ibibo-owned Gaadi.com in September 2014. CarDekho is the undisputed market leader in the automotive industry with an average of 15 million monthly visitors. The acquisition allowed them to grow in the pre-owned market, which would have taken years if they had done it themselves.

The company is in a different league, so it should be visible in all media. CarDekho launched their iOS app last month, a month after their Android app received 100,000 downloads. They didn't stop there. In September 2014, they released their first TV commercial alongside Bigg Boss Season 8 which they co-sponsored and a film – Humpty Singh Ki Dulhania which premiered on Colors channel. Within minutes, their unique visitors tripled and their revenue tripled. In return for a 20% stake in Sequoia Capital, they have raised only USD 15 million to date. The company expects to raise around USD 40-50 million (up to Rs 300 crore) from Sequoia Capital in November 2013 in return for a 20% stake.
